California National Committeeman, Zack Scrivner, continues to work hard in his campaign for election to the YRNF board as the Vice-Chairman at Large. Scrivner has been traveling the country as part of the Team Ambrose “Listening Tour” to learn what issues effect YRs throughout the country
Over the past two months, Scrivner has traveled to Alabama, Georgia, Kansas, Montana, New Jersey, Ohio, Texas, and Washington.
“It was great to have Zack visit our recruitment party in Helena,” said Charles Robison, chairman of the Montana Young Republicans League. “People were pretty excited to have someone from the national ticket visit a Montana YRs event. Our board has been trying to get more people interested in the national organization, and Zack was able to explain how the YRNF relates to the state clubs. He also gave us some great ideas on recruiting and fundraising. We appreciate his visit, and that is part of the reason we are supporting Zack for Vice-Chairman at Large.”
“My trip to Montana was fantastic,” said Scrivner. “They have a strong group.”
Scrivner is convinced that making personal contact with YRs across the country is vital to be a successful Vice-Chairman at Large. “I believe it is important to meet with every club and learn about their specific needs, opinions, and ideas. Representing people in elective office or a volunteer organization is about accessibility and building trust,” said Scrivner.
In November 2004, Scrivner won a seat on the Bakersfield, CA City Council in a four-way race, beating his closest opponent by nearly 20 percentage points. “I won with the same strategy I learned as Kern County Republican Voter Registration Chair, Headquarters Chairman, YR club chairman, and precinct manager for Assembly Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy’s campaign,” said Scrivner. “You must make contact with every voter, listen, and then ask them for their support. I am taking the same approach for my campaign for YRNF Vice-Chairman at Large.”
Scrivner currently works for McCarthy as his Senior Field Representative. “Zack is one of the hardest working people I know,” stated McCarthy, a former YRNF Chairman. “I have seen him in action and know that he will be a huge asset to the YRNF.”
In addition to McCarthy’s support, Scrivner has already been endorsed by a majority of the California State Assembly Republican Caucus. “I am honored to have the support of so many Republican legislators,” said Scrivner.
Scrivner says his primary focus as Vice-Chairman at Large will be communication between the state chapters, the Regional Vice-Chairs, and the YRNF board. “The YRNF, at its best, is a ‘bottom up’ organization, so we need to make sure that the state organizations are the driving force behind everything we do, and club development is key,” said Scrivner.
Raising funds and encouraging young politicians to flock to the YRNF is another one of Scrivner’s goals. “As Finance Chairman for the California Young Republicans, and after winning a City Council campaign in which I raised over $70,000, I know how important it is for an organization to have a great fundraising apparatus,” explained Scrivner. “The YRNF will never be a charity case for the RNC while I’m around.”
Noting that the YRNF’s mission is to work for the election of Republican candidates, Scrivner is determined to coordinate at least one campaign school for every region during the two-year term of Team Ambrose. “We will coordinate these training schools in each region, with elected officials and top campaign consultants instructing our members in areas like precinct operations, fundraising, direct mail, polling, television and radio advertising, media relations, etc.,” said Scrivner. I want to especially concentrate training in the use of internet campaign tactics. If our members are a highly trained army of volunteers, we will increase our value greatly to our Party and our country.”
Finally, Scrivner feels his job as Vice-Chair at Large will enable him to work to improve the unity and purpose of the YRNF. “I want to build an organization where everyone’s talents are respected and utilized, where everyone has a seat at the table,” said Scrivner. “The YRs must always be know for being united in our common goal to elect Republicans and strengthen our great nation.”
The general membership of the PAYRs officially endorsed the entire Team Ambrose slate led by Nicolee Ambrose and Tim Kolpien, following the lead of the organization’s executive committee, which had done so in February.
PAYR Executive Director, Adrienne Mitford is running for Regional Vice Chair of the Northeast Region. “We are proud to have Adrienne running for Regional Vice Chairman on the Ambrose-Kolpien ticket,” said PAYR chairman Christine Verdier. “Adrienne will be an asset to the YRNF, as she has been to the PAYRs, because of her leadership and work ethic.”
"I had an opportunity to meet many of those on Team Ambrose at the YRNF Board Meeting in Arizona. Nicolee has put together a great team and I am confident they will work hard to develop an organization based on integrity that will help the YRNF gain respect across the country," said National Committeewoman, Lindsay Pfister.
The PAYRs look forward to bringing a full delegation to YRNC 2005 in July.
