Jessica Colón has worked in politics professionally and as a volunteer for over a decade. Jessica's service includes internships with the National Republican Senatorial Committee and U.S. Senator Connie Mack (R-FL), Staff Assistant at the Republican National Committee, an election cycle at the top-tier Republican political advertising firm, Stevens Reed Curcio Potholm & Company, Deputy Communications Director in Houston's 2001 mayoral race, Campaign Manager of a State Representative primary race and Campaign Manager of a $1.5 million, nationally-watched Congressional race in 2002.
Jessica is serving her second term as Texas Young Republican Federation (TYRF) Communications Director and also as Houston Young Republicans (HYR) President. She had previously served HYR as its First Vice President and Communications Director. Under Jessica's leadership, HYR was awarded Club of the Year for the second consecutive year. Jessica was also recognized as the 2004 TYRF Woman of the Year.
For the 2004 election year, Jessica engineered and chaired a grassroots effort called Project Deliver the Vote (PDV) that set out to accomplish two objectives:
- Send 75 Republicans to a battleground swing state, and
- Execute a three-piece mail campaign targeted to 22-39-year-old voters.
Jessica, along with the tireless PDV Committee, raised over $67,000 to complete its tasks. The objectives were met with resounding success. PDV successfully signed up and funded 75 volunteers to travel to the battleground state of Minnesota. The PDV team participated in the Party's goal to make over one million contacts the weekend before the election. This helped Minnesota have one of its best showings for a Republican presidential candidate in decades.
Locally, PDV mailers increased turnout in Harris County's 22-39-year-old demographic by 17 percent, nearly double the overall Harris County turnout. Over 90 percent of PDV households cast a ballot. PDV was recognized nationally when its initial mailer was awarded a Silver in the Get-Out-the-Vote category at the American Association of Political Consultants' annual Pollie Awards.
This year, PDV is taking its model nationwide with its new challenge to deliver the vote on Social Security reform for the 22-39-year-old age group.
Jessica graduated from the University of Florida cum laude with a degree in Political Science and a minor in Mass Communications. She works at the global real estate developer, Hines, as a Corporate and Project Marketing Manager and is enjoying her sixth year in Houston with her husband, Miguel.
