Zack Scrivner was elected to the Ward 7 seat on the Bakersfield City Council on November 2, 2004 at the age of 30. It was his first run for public office. He won with over 52% of the vote in a four-way race against a Democratic school board member, a Republican airport manager, and an American Independent Party candidate. As the council member from the 7 th Ward, Zack represents over 40,000 people.
After being sworn in to office, Zack was appointed as Chair of the Legislative and Litigation Committee. He also serves on the Water Committee and the Personnel Committee
Zack’s holds a full-time position as the Senior Field Representative for former Young Republican National Federation Chair, Assemblyman Kevin McCarthy of Bakersfield, California in the county of Kern. McCarthy currently holds the position of Minority Leader in the 80 member Assembly of the California State Legislature.
Zack coordinated the precinct walking and “Get Out the Vote” for McCarthy’s primary campaign in January 2002. After McCarthy won the March primary election, Zack went to work for Republican political consultant, Mark Abernathy, statewide campaign manager for the Recall of Democratic Governor, Gray Davis, which led to the election of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2003.
Zack has held many volunteer positions with the Republican Party of Kern County, also home to House Ways and Means Chairman, Congressman Bill Thomas. During the November general election campaign of 2002, Zack served as Voter Registration and Headquarters Chairman for Kern, the county with the second highest number of registered Republicans in the entire state of California. Zack also served as Kern County’s Voter Registration Chairman for the 2004 Bush/Cheney campaign.
Zack was twice elected unanimously to serve as Chairman of the Kern County Young Republicans, the largest county YR club in California. He currently serves as the National Committeeman for California Young Republicans, Inc., and has also held the position of Central California Vice-Chairman and Finance Chairman, responsible for fundraising.
Before working for Assemblyman McCarthy, Zack was a Route Sales Manager for Schwan’s Foods for three years. Zack also has a California real estate license.
Zack is a graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara where he received a degree in English Literature.
A California native, Zack is single with no children.
